Ebola is an infectious fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding, spread through contact with infected body fluids.
What the public thinks

Health officials have tested potential cases from Miami beach and Washington bringing more worry though the patients have been tested negative, many people are still tweeting as if the disease is in the city. If people did not believe and spread false information quickly about the virus, many people will not have the worry that the virus has spread to other cities.

The public
"A traveler you know is better than the traveler you do not know" and that was the argument. The Republican lawmakers who wanted to know information to know why the government hasn't banned commercial travel from the West African countries. The answer was given that authorities preferred a system whereby people can be screened that are trying to come into the United States.
The public does not take the virus seriously as many people still make fun of how you can get infected by the virus and how you can prevent yourself from getting the virus. People that are infected with the virus or have died are still human and should not be seen like they are infected by a disgusting virus.
Using social media positively

| Public awareness against Ebola virus. |
The public should use social media to share correct information so that people have the correct things to say, learn and spread positive information. Social media is being used for the wrong reasons at times because not everyone is a trusted source for information to be spread fast.
Lets us support the people who are infected with the virus, sponsorship to be given and correct equipment to be used in the labs.

The social media played a huge role in this by informing people about the disease and it also went viral by spreading false information when people made up their own information about this disease. i am glad that it was maintained and is not so much of a treading topic anymore on social media.
ReplyDeleteI agree Sinethemba, this topic trended for all the good reasons. Regardless of some people making fun of the virus, people still got informed about the disease.
ReplyDeleteits so sad how you see people dying like flies this Ebola virus has claim so many innocent lives, the media play a very important role by spreading the news to the whole world.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree that the media played its powerful role in a positive way
DeleteEvery time there is something serious people misuse the power of social media for example Ebola is very serious people must only advice other about the it on social networks
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed by the way Twitter had funny tweets about the virus.
DeleteSocial media is the best, since its easily accessible though as future Public Relations practitioners must not rely on it because sometimes it does not provide 100% accurate and factual news or information.
ReplyDeleteGranted. Not everyone is a credible source on social media
DeleteI feel like its easy for people and social media pages that we all about updating about the outbreak of ebola to just update a post and act terrified when in reality not much was being done. People took advantage of the matter, trying to make it a joke and capitalizing on it for their own publicity means and not because they wanted to make a difference. The social media world can the your best friend or your enemy. It goes two ways
ReplyDeleteThe matter just hyped up on social media, i hope this crisis did not just disappear after the twitter treads etc
DeleteIt was sad hearing about people dying from the virus, because we also do't know when the virus will catch up with us.
ReplyDeletewe need to be more educated about the virus.

If you do not educate yourself I think you will wait for years rather google "'Information about Ebola'' to get more information Nthabiseng.

ReplyDeleteEbola is a very sensitive issue for us Africans. Especially since its now a stereotype. A coach of a soccer club in Europe refused to coach an African player because he said he has Ebola. That coach was fired by FIFA. Its sad how a certain disease is associated with a certain race just because it was first found in a certain Continent.
ReplyDeleteThat is bad I did not know about that. Thank you for sharing this information, this is indeed a sensitive topic. As much as people from other worlds think Africa is flooded with animals on the roads is as much as this is affecting us people thinking we also have Ebola,
DeleteI think the main reason why people are generally misinformed is our reliance on social media and other media where we are spoon fed information in bite size chunks. This is partly due to the busy nature of today's world where people simply don’t have enough time in the day or at least that impression is given that they want information and they want it now. Very seldom to people research what they just read. Or take time to even understand what they are reading. They read, they share. This also gives the impression that they are "in the know". This is a direct result of social media and how it has now created this new mass psychosis, which seems to be plaguing the youth mostly but largely our world; where validation via re-tweets, likes and favourites in the face of increasingly failed normative family structures in a post-structuralist society.
ReplyDeletePeople generally just want to be spoon fed information, that i can agree with. We never want to do our research before we hear the hype on social media. Social does help us know what is happening around but at times i think people use it for their own reasons.
